»Japanese Lesson« started in 2009 as a zine and projection – an associative mash-up containing material interesting for a ‚search for Japan‘: It contains images and drawing from mangas and animes, still images from japanese movies, historical and current pressphotographs; photos, drawings and paintings by japanese artists, some of our own works and material we found in the web, magazines, LP-record-sleeves, catalogues, on the streets or in the subways of Tokyo and Osaka.
Ever since the projection is growing, and »Japanese Lesson« is developping — including works about music- and subculture, discrimination/activism/politics/borders, urbanism/city developpement or Olympia 2020. »Japanese Lesson« also brings together individual works by Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber regarding music- and subculture and other works they produced since their first artist residency in Osaka in 2006.
»Another Lesson« is a glossary; a research-archive including works by Japanese artists, international artists who work in Japan, videos, documentaries, images, photographs and much more. go»»

Die neue Normalität. Momentan passieren Dinge, die wir uns vor einigen Wochen noch nicht hätte vorstellen können. Wir erleben Geschichte und das fühlt sich spannend und bizarr zugleich an. Irritation und Ungewissheit sind Gefühle die unseren Alltag begleiten, die Einschnitte in unser gewohntes Leben sind längst neue Normalität geworden. Die Welt verändert sich mindestens genauso schnell, wie das Virus sich verbreitet.
Es gibt neue Verhaltensformen und Änderungen im Stadtbild. Und was macht das alles wirklich mit den Menschen?

Für EUR 100,– werden zur Zeit auf der Plattform „Artist in the Box“ je drei Prints von Oliver Sieber und Katja Stuke angeboten.
„Artist in the Box“ ist eine Plattform für Künstler*innen in Not. Sechzig Künstler*innen aus dem gesamten Bundesgebiet – darunter viele etablierte Namen – verkaufen über www.artistinthebox.com Werke aus den Bereichen Fotografie, Grafik, Illustration und bildende Kunst zu moderaten Preisen. Zudem gibt es die Möglichkeit, Künstler*innen individuell zu unterstützen. Mit Mitteln aus dem Kollektiv sind außerdem Unterstützungszahlungen an einzelne Künstler*innen in schwierigen finanziellen Lagen geplant. Auf der Rückseite der eigens für die Aktion angefertigten Drucke findet sich ein „Artist in the Box“-Sticker mit handschriftlicher Signatur. Jeder der unlimitierten Drucke bleibt so ein Original zu einem erschwinglichen Preis.

A private window, a public space, a recordative walk from Chongqing, a new encounter with #socialdistance in Duesseldorf. In 2018 Duesseldorf based artists Katja Stuke and Oliver Sieber had a walk in Chongqing. In this city they followed the same route which was their routine from their home to their studio in Duesseldorf.

In den letzten beiden Jahren hat sich TENTENKO zu den aufregendsten Stimmen der elektronischen Underground Musik Japans entwickelt. Ihre Produktionen oszillieren dabei zwischen freien Noise Experimenten und der monotonen Schönheit kraftvoller Rhythmus Tracks. Ihrer aktuellen Arbeit ging eine quasi erste Karriere in der japanischen IDOL Kultur voraus, welche sie in die Welt von Teenage J-Pop, Starlet Videos und industriellem Merchandising, führte. Zu ihrer ersten Tour in Europa überhaupt, erschien auf dem Düsseldorfer Label TAL gerade das Album SUPER MILD. Am 18.12. spielt TENTENKO live im Salon des Amateurs in Düsseldorf.
Die Bar wird an diesem Abend Shochu, Suntory Whiskey, Highball und Sake anbieten. In der Buchvitrine der Bar werden Fotobücher über japanische Sub- und Musikkultur zum Lesen bereitstehen.
